Top Interior Design Trends for 2022 We’re Incorporating in Projects This Year

Like with fashion, interior design trends come and go. At Cameron Getter Design, a boutique interior design firm in Austin, we always strive to blend current and timeless styles that our clients love.

If you like to stay up to date with the latest styles and are looking for inspiration, then you might be wondering – what are the interior decorating trends for 2022?

As we move into a new year let’s review some of the major design trends that we’re looking forward to incorporating into our projects this year.

Curved Forms

Incorporating curved forms in interiors is not a new trend. It’s one we definitely embraced last year and is still going strong into 2022.

Adding curved pieces of furniture is a great way to make a home feel warm and inviting, as the organic shapes balance out the straight hard lines of the architecture and interior surfaces.

When it comes to rounded shapes we’re loving curved seating, tables, and storage options.

In our recently completed Rugged Earth project, we’ve placed a pair of Aurora Chairs in Copenhagen Indigo in the seating area sounding the beautiful round Antonio Coffee Table. The textural boucle of the chairs contrasts beautifully with the steel frame and glass top table.

For our 3rd Street project that’s currently wrapping up, we incorporated the curved Fae Chair which partners well with the Laverne Sideboard. Both are mid century-inspired with modern elements. The sideboard has rounded edges and is in a fluted black oak which adds stunning texture and gives it an updated look. The chair is in a sumptuous auburn velvet which adds a touch of softness and luxury to the space.

Natural Color Palette

As more people have spent time at home over the past two years, we’ve been bringing the outdoors indoors more. This can be done in many ways, but for 2022 we’re seeing lots of natural color palettes being used.

This means plenty of earth tones, and landscape colors found in nature. Green is the new neutral. We love Sherwin Williams’ color of the year Evergreen Fog which is very zen and calming. Benjamin Moore’s color of the year October Mist is another beautiful tranquil shade.

The green bathroom vanity from our Anselm Ct project is Sherwin Williams Retreat. It adds the perfect amount of color to the design without being too bold.

For the master bath in our Oak Haven Project, a new build that’ll be completed end of this year, we’re going with an earth tone color palette. For the floor, we have terra cotta color custom clay tiles by Clay Imports, with a light green thin brick for the shower walls. The wall tiles are hand-glazed so each is unique, so the final result will have beautiful color variation – much like in nature too. These design elements give the space an earthy and natural feel.

We love creating home spa vibes and green is the perfect color to achieve that!

Upholstery and Textured Textiles

Another way to add softness and visual interest to interiors is with upholstery and textural textile elements. A textural element can make an item with a neutral or monotone color palette a lot more interesting.

In our Farmdale Lane project, we recently installed a gorgeous indigo blue upholstered bed frame to add a luxurious feel to the master bedroom. It’s a showstopper and certainly the focal point of the room.

Adding upholstery in unexpected places is a fun way to turn an ordinary piece into one that makes a decorative statement.

Another great way to add some texture to a space is with throw pillows, we add these as the perfect final touches to many of our projects. You can add these to sofa’s and chairs throughout your home to instantly create visual interest in any room.

Greenery Indoors

If you’re looking for more ways to embrace nature inside, think about incorporating plenty of plants into your home decor. Not only do plants look beautiful, and help add life and brightness to a space, they also help improve indoor air quality. What’s not to love?

You may want to add plants to certain rooms but worry about the maintenance or lack of natural light available. That’s why we like to add a mix of real and faux plants to our projects. That way we create the perfect blend of function and style.

Take advantage of placing real plants where you do have natural light available. If you’re not sure what will work, Good Housekeeping has a list of great low-maintenance indoor plants, to start getting ideas.

In our Rugged Earth project, we’ve included a Bird of Paradise plant and a small Snake plant in the living area and hallway.

Faux has come a long way in the last decade - as there are so many great faux options out there. In the living room of our 4th Street project, we also included a faux Fiddle tree, by one of our custom faux plant vendors.

A pretty moss bowl custom-made by a local florist, Westbank Flower Market adds the perfect finishing touch to the Rugged Earth dining table.

Multifunctional Rooms

Throughout the pandemic, we’ve seen greater value in dual-purpose spaces. As we’ve all spent more time at home over the past two years and many people are still working from home full or part-time, multipurpose spaces are a must.

Think about incorporating multifunctional rooms in your home by assessing your needs. For this One Room Makeover in Lakeway, we converted an unused room into a formal sitting room with a desk, positioned by the entry so it was a pretty room to greet the guests.

Maybe your guest bedroom can also function as an office, or you need your living area to also be a playroom or workspace?

In our Oak Haven project, the new home office addition will also double as game room that features a bar and entertainment space, cards table, with sliding glass doors that open to an outdoor covered patio area. Designed to function perfectly for work and play.

Natural Materials

We want to embrace nature in all its forms inside this year, so along with greenery and nature-inspired color pallets, we’re also making sure to use lots of natural materials.

Bringing natural surfaces indoors is a great way to feel more connected with nature. Think beautiful natural stone and natural wood. Incorporating these organic materials adds warmth, depth, and richness to a space.

In our Oak Haven bathroom, the terracotta floor tiles have an earthy natural feel. Terracotta literally means “baked earth” in Italian, so it’s clear how this material got its name.

We love to use natural stone, wood, and natural fabrics in our projects wherever possible. It is the perfect way to add dimension to a space.
