CGD Top Picks: Austin's 7 Hidden Gems for Home Finds

While you can find almost anything online these days, when it comes to discovering unique furniture and home goods, nothing quite compares to the thrill of discovering these treasures in person. In a creative city like Austin, you’re sure to find a wealth of home design shops to explore and get a true sense of each piece before making it a part of your home.

As an interior designer, I love visiting local boutiques and shops to source special pieces for our clients. If you want to support local businesses and add character to your home, keep reading for our selection of Austin's best-kept secrets for great home finds.

Maaribu blends the creative energy of Marfa, Tx, with the laid-back beach vibe of Malibu, Ca, and the principles of Scandinavian design. This boutique not only offers luxury bedding but also features a beautiful selection of home decor, furniture, kitchenware, bath essentials, lighting, apparel, and wellness products.

Visit their South First Shop and Cafe or the Guadalupe Showroom to find curated pieces that’ll brighten your home. While browsing, take a break at their cafe to enjoy a coffee, wellness drink, or snack.

The Guadalupe Showroom has an extensive selection of Assouline travel books, a go-to of ours for coffee table styling. They also carry one of our favorite luxury furniture brands, Verellen. Try out their comfortable lounge chairs and you won’t want to get up! We also love their plush sheepskin rugs, perfect for adding warmth and texture to any room.

Apartment F collaborates with artisans in Morocco and Turkey to design and create original textiles. Their handcrafted pillows and rugs are true works of art, each piece unique and filled with character. The shop owner is a Moroccan resident and chose East Austin to lay down her roots, to support and empower their local artisan partners.

More than a shop, Apartment F has become a community hub, offering events, classes, and giving-back initiatives. I had attended a “Creative Ladies Night” networking event among other interior designers in early 2020 [pre-Covid] and fell in love with the store’s aesthetic and unique offerings. In addition to textiles, they feature a carefully selected range of global home products including apothecary items, pantry goods, art, and more. If you're searching for Vintage Turkish rugs that exude personality and authenticity, this spot should be on your list!

Take Heart is another East Austin boutique inspired by owner Nina Gordon’s love for thoughtfully designed specialty home and lifestyle objects. Infused with Japanese design and a passion for supporting small businesses and artists, Take Heart's selection includes apparel, baby and kids items, kitchenware, jewelry, books, and wellness products.

We particularly love their aromatherapy and skincare offering, with a great selection of Los Poblanos organic lavender products from the Los Poblanos Lavender Farm in Albuquerque, NM. There is also a lovely curation of baby and kids' products for anyone shopping for little ones. It’s the perfect destination to find a unique gift for a loved one or to add something unexpected to your home.

East Co. is a design showroom and retail store specializing in bespoke and custom furniture, with an exclusive collection of art, ceramics, textiles, and lighting. Founded by interior designer Bri Ussery, they offer one-of-a-kind pieces that’ll elevate your interiors.

We highly recommend browsing their selection of sculptures and decorative objects for special pieces to style shelving or tables. We also love their stunning plant and vessel collection created in collaboration with Austin’s very own local plant design studio, Tropic of Capricorn. With a focus on originality and craftsmanship, this Bouldin Creek gem will appeal to those seeking curated, distinct, and personalized home decor.
