6 High Point Market Fall 2021 Furniture Trends To Look Out For

High Point Market is the world’s largest biannual trade show featuring over 2000 exhibitors who show the latest in furniture and decor. It’s held twice a year (June and October) in High Point, North Carolina.

After being put on pause because of COVID-19, the HPMKT was back in full swing this year! I was able to attend the June market, and I’ve rounded up the top 6 trends that were spotted at both the June and October market. If you’re wondering what to look out for within the next few months - or if you’re in need of some design inspiration, keep reading!

Curvilinear Forms

Rounded and curving furniture shapes were prominent at the event from upholstery pieces to case goods including dressers, bookcases, dining tables. Organic and contoured forms are a nice contrast to the geometric and straight lines of the buildings and the rooms we spend our time in. They add a touch of softness and comfort to any space.

A new collaboration by Meranda Kerr and Universal Furniture displayed chic and feminine designs in neutral hues.

TOV Furniture featured many rounded pieces, from sofas, chairs, tables, and more. Their Kendall Moss Green Velvet Sofa is a beaut and comes in several different colors.

Nuevo’s new pieces also sported classic and sophisticated curved shapes - these include sofas and chairs, tables, ottomans, and light fixtures. The Clementine occasional chair was one of my favorites!

Rattan and Cane

Woven materials have been making a major comeback within the past couple of years. Rattan and cane pieces were still going strong at the fall High Point Market.

Artesia was a new vendor I had discovered during the June market that is a furniture maker specializing in coastal, bohemian furnishings with showrooms in Miami and High Point. They had beautiful teak furnishings with cane and rattan woven detailing throughout the showroom. These included indoor and outdoor collections ranging from Rattan Beds, teak dining tables, rattan hanging chairs, and teak accent chairs. The quality was impeccable and the pricing was affordable!

Made Goods featured many woven pieces including furniture and lighting. The Arla Lounge Chair is a stunner - it adds an elevated aesthetic to a casual setting.

We’re also in love with Selmat Designs, Stockhome Credenza - the cane panels beautifully conceal the storage space and contrast wonderfully with the black wood frame. This piece in particular captures both the cane and the rounded trends with a retro feel.

Natural Wood

Making use of wood is not a new trend by any means, but so many vendors were highlighting the natural beauty of wood in its raw form. We love to bring the outdoors inside, so this was great to see!

Classic Home highlighted stunning natural wood furniture, ranging from tables, dressers, bed frames, and more. We’ll be installing the Elani 4-door sideboard from Classic Home this Fall for a dining room project.

Julian Chichester, a contemporary designer and furniture manufacturer based in the UK, also featured some gorgeous raw wood pieces, including the Tiffany Dining Table that also captures the curvilinear trend in this oval shape.

Velvet

Again, not a new trend, but we loved to see that plenty of luxurious velvet was featured in many forms throughout the market.

The Rotunda Chair by Union Home was a market favorite - combining curved lines, soft velvets, and a round oak base, it was one of the International Market Centers’ “people's choice” winners.

Many people shy away from velvet furnishings because it’s not a very durable material, but the good news is many companies make performance velvets that are stain-resistant and easy to clean.

The Modway Cordial Dining Chair, in performance velvet, comes in a range of colors and adds some retro-glam to any dining space. We love the richness of the orange colorway.

Ribbing

A number of new products included ribbed or fluted accents. Ribbing gives pieces a fantastic sculptural quality with a lot of visual interest.

Flowdecor which is a boutique contemporary lighting brand, has a number of ribbed lamps, like their Bluth Table Lamp.

Four Hands Home featured their ribbed Fletcher collection, which includes a nightstand, bed, and dresser. These striking pieces are a fantastic focal point for any bedroom and incorporate polished brass hardware that pops against the brown-finished solid oak. The dresser and nightstand both feature bluestone tops which give them a timeless and elevated look. They’re great as a group or as single stand-alone pieces.

Ribbed pieces make a statement in a simple and classic way and are especially perfect for those that love a minimal or mod aesthetic.

Sheepskin and Bouclé

Our last, but certainly not least, favorite trends from the HPMKT are sheepskin and bouclé upholstered pieces. If you’re not already familiar, bouclé is a method of looping fabric so that it has a soft nubby texture.

Sunpan Furniture had a number of cozy and plush bouclé pieces including sofas and chairs, such as the Valance Sofa in Maya White.

If you’re animal conscious and faux products are more your style, Tov Furniture has several faux sheep and shearling products, like their Presley Chair which has a sleek mid-century silhouette dressed in cozy faux sheepskin. Perfect for a nook you’d like to curl up in!
